- In my own words:
-
I enjoy biking, hiking, kayaking, motorcycles, airplanes, binging on Netflix, casual dining (Mexican, Chinese, and Indian foods are my favorites - although grabbing a hot dog or frozen yogurt at the Costco Food Court ranks pretty high on the list too!)
I have pretty eclectic tastes in music (older stuff typically.) I like Fleetwood Mac, Santana, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby-Stills-Nash-and-Young, along with many others of that time frame. In summer 2017 I drove 15,000+ miles on several cross-country trips. During those drives my music library consisted of Norah Jones, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, Jars of Clay, Christian and gospel music, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Dire Straits, the soundtrack from "The Polar Express", Eric Clapton, Yanni Live at the Acropolis, the B-52's, The Marshall Tucker Band, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, The Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber, bluegrass and the soundtrack to O Brother Where Art Thou, Depeche Mode, Enya, and the Grateful Dead. I suppose I should disclose that I have a particular fondness for the Grateful Dead, born of many years of exposure, as my late brother Willy worked with them for 30+ years, starting even before they were a band. His picture they used for his epitaph on the Grateful Dead page (http://www.dead.net/features/news/remembering-willy-legate) came from their 1987 music video "Hell in a Bucket" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH7I6ibA-SM), where he plays the bartender in the background.
Volunteering is a big part of my life, and I hope to share that with my future partner. In the past I've volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, East Bay Stand Down (https://eastbaystanddown.org/), the Kentucky-based ministry Answers in Genesis, and distributing hot meals and clothing to the homeless in downtown San Francisco. In June 2017 I drove to Lafayette, LA to volunteer with Eight Days of Hope (http://eightdaysofhope.com) in rebuilding homes damaged by the extensive flooding in August 2016. In October 2017, shortly after the Santa Rosa/Sonoma County fires started, I spent 4 days volunteering at the Redwood Empire Food Bank helping distribute food and assisting the homeless and newly displaced. I currently volunteer as a van driver and food sorter for White Pony Express in Pleasant Hill (http://www.whiteponyexpress.org/). As long as I'm able, I will continue to give back through some type of volunteer work (maybe here, or on the road, or Panama or Ecuador?)
I would love to find a woman who's upbeat, happy, and positive about life. A good sense of humor is a must. Soon I'll be selling my home, living full-time and traveling the U.S. in an RV, so a woman who likes a bit of adventure and spur-of-the-moment road trips. Someone who enjoys watching a DVD or Netflix show over popcorn or wine/cheese/chocolate. I'm a born-again, Bible-believing Christian, and would very much like to find the same.
